I've built this website to explain what I do and to share information with other people. I specialise in a number of areas and you can click on the links on this page to go to the relevant area.

I'm a firm believer in the benefits of combining business and technical skills to help bridge the gap between businesses and IT. Every team will benefit from having at least one person in the team with a firm grasp of both the technical and business issues. I've worked to become both a good functional/business consultant and a strong knowledgeable technologist.

I've spent a number of years working as a business analyst and as an SAP application consultant (specialising in Human Capital Management), focusing on processes and working with business process owners to help them get the most from their technology. Whilst the focus here is on the business requirements and on processes, it always helps to understand the technology and to be able to explain technical issues to the business.

I've also worked in more technical roles, developing using both the SAP platform and Web technologies such as Adobe Flex, Javascript, Java and HTML. I have a very good knowledge of the workings of the SAP system, and have a number of years experience developing SAP applications, both Web Applications and more old-fashioned SAP transactions and reports using ABAP. Some of my technical work is shared in the Flex and SAP Netweaver sections of this site.

I wouldn't say I have a preference between working as a technologist and working as an application consultant. They both have different challenges and benefits. I enjoy the people aspects of working as an application consultant, and I enjoy the technical challenges of working as a technologist. I do believe its best to work as one or the other at any one time simply because each area requires a dedication and focus.
